(*)So here's the deal. If you've got some time, write a paragraph or two (*)about what sorts of things you did when you were a sysop, any major events (*)that occurred, etc. That way we can make a history of the sysops at (*)MBHS. If we get a good response, we'll compile this into a webpage, and (*)have new sysops add to it each year. okay =) well ive been sort of the useless sysop. i do the random things on binx that don't really require someone who's good. just someone who's willing to waste time on binx and do silly random things, some of which are so random that you might not encounter them yourself while really doing any sysadminning. ;) i joined in after bugging luke a lot. that was during the kevins, luke and brendon i believe. hmm.. somehow i dont remember a thing i did as a minop during the school year besides bug a lot of people about how to do stuff. that summer was when we got binxii and the new school and such. i was there when we installed linux on binxii and while we waited redoing it several times i marked the monitor boxes sitting in the lab. i was also supposedly configuring dhcp. but i think i screwed up the job too much so shibla took over and fixed it up! ;) somehow around then hammond gave me root. he said that he thought i knew more about linux at that point. that was his mistake and led to the useless sysop ;) most sysops seem to have done something or volunteered to do something to earn root. that wasnt really my case. somehow i was handed root. very odd, i know. so armed with root in one hand and binxii in the other i updated the SALs fairly regularly, posted sysnews, added mail aliases, made webpage space for clubs, added to quotas, fixed passwords, messed with the issue and motd files, changed newuser to give a random password instead of a dictionary one, fixed w after the upgrade but then someone changed it back, fixed access to webpages, cleaned up space when needed, killed bad processes, yeah you get the point. ;) things i tried but never got off: colorcfg, was supposed to be a command to easily customize the colors of binx for you as well as the prompt. global aliases: emotions to type when frustrated at your terminal or happy, and whereami, the alias to pwd as a spoof of whoami.. other duties as an op minus binx stuff: i was a macop for the english labs with jennifer for a year and i also was hammonds aide for a semester so i fixed macs and printers and i did a little little bit of the virtual reality tour pictures and went around fixing teacher's computers. random misc crap i did: provided random babbles during sysop meetings, provide annoying to read emails on sysop list, good companion for poor binxii, talking to him as well as to varda and (omg why cant i remember this...the puter that was varda before...the dns server then...omg i remember the numerical ip of this machine but not the name! (205.222.72.65)) okay i fell really idiotic and really bad for not remembering his name =( sowwy puter!! i REALLY hope someone still talks to them!! thye must be so lonely if they arent being talked to =( okay there's my ramble =) *grin* bubyes! ;) -jenlin
