The Blair CTY Page
In preparing this page, we asked each person what their favorite CTY
memories were. Here are the results, alphabetical by last name:
- Luke Bergmann
- Sessions Attended: Astronomy, Lancaster, session 2, 1994;
Theoretical Foundations of CS, Lancaster, session 2, 1995.
- Favorite Memories: Unfortunately, Luke didn't seem to remember
anything, even after numerous requests for comment. The editors are
puzzled as to the reason behind this phenomenon. Brendan thinks it's
the post-CTY trauma that occurs when people are once again exposed to
Real Life. Until Luke can think of something, he will be classified as
an amnesiac. (If you don't know what an amnesiac is, go mail somebody
on this list who took Etymology or something.)

- Brendan Connell
- Sessions Attended: Etymology, JHU, session 2, 1995; Theoretical
Foundations of Computer Science, Lancaster, session 2, 1996.
- Favorite Memories: "Trying to help a friend retrieve
a shoe from the roof of a building, without any luck. See, he was
playing CTY shoe golf, which is like golf, but rather than hitting a ball,
you play by kicking a shoe off of your foot. Thanks to some horrendous aim,
this person, who shall remain nameless, managed to kick it up on the
roof, where it tumbled into a gutter... ...Talking to new friends and
laughing while walking aimlessly around campus... ...Saying goodbye after
the last dance, amid the light drizzle and lightning of a summer storm."
- Interesting Phenomenon: "You may think me crazy, but over
the last couple weeks, I've spotted several CTY license plates. That's
right. Most license plates in Maryland have two-part tags, with a
combination of digits and numbers -- ABC-123, or FOO-999, for instance.
Well, recently, I've seen a number of cars with license plates that start
with the three letters CTY. I don't remember the numbers, but in other
words, the cars are labeled something like CTY-243 or CTY-644. Coincidence? I think not.
There's something funny going on here. I say, everyone, brace yourselves
for more of this strange phenomenon, and IMMEDIATELY go alert both your
local congressperson and Oliver Stone."

- Ashley Eden
- Sessions Attended: Intro to Lab Sciences, Lancaster, session 1, 1993;
Writing 1B, Lancaster, session 1, 1994.
- Favorite Memories: "My most memorable moment at CTY has got
to be when I dropped a sandal on my roommate's head from the third story
balcony and avoided the RAs the rest of the day. Of course its hard to
decide between that and the killer carpenter squirrel incident..."
- Editor's Note:Click here
for Ashley's long version of the sandal story. But wait. Don't go
away yet: Ashley's roommate saw this page and Ashley's story. She
declared the story to be, quote, exaggerated, unquote, and
proceeded to send to the editors what she described as the
"real story". With the
veracity of her narration in doubt, Ashley was asked if she had anything
to say to THAT. Well, as it turns out, she did. Ashley's answer calls her
roommate's story exaggerated, and complains loudly about
"annoying games" that were played on her! (The horror!)
It is now up to Ashley's roomate to dispel this libelous charge and
send us a rebuttal reaffirming her position. Stay tuned for
further developments in this saga!
- Editor's Note, Continuted: Wait, don't go away! You can now
read Laura's latest explanation of
exactly what happened!

- Rahki Goel
- Session Attended: Etymology, Lancaster, session 2, 1994.
- Favorite Memories: "Dancing to American Pie, squashing a big bug
in our room with my dictionary, wondering why during a 4:00 am fire drill
all the guys were barefoot but had their hats on. Are hats the most
important part of a guy's outfit?"

Melissa Hao
- Sessions Attended: Writing 1, Lancaster, session 2, 1992;
Etymology, Lancaster, session 2, 1993; Advanced Biology, Lancaster,
session 2, 1994.
- Favorite Memories: "There was this special room tucked
away in the College Center and we would go there a lot. There was a
pool table, ping pong tables, cable tv, and among other things we played
versions of pool that didn't involve cues. The year before that, for
revenge we hung this guy's underwear from the lounge ceiling and I was
known as Honeybee. The year before that I was known universally as Melly
the Tender Reed and to some as the Mistress of Euker."

Jessica Henig
- Sessions Attended: Logic, Lancaster, session 1, 1994;
Psychology, Lancaster, session 1, 1995; Etymologies, Lancaster,
session 2, 1995
- Favorite Memories: "playing in the huge puddle that
collected down by the arches, singing off balconies, playing with the
dining hall food (jello's great to juggle with, and eating utensils
make great sculptures), psych class exploits, and bizarre love triangle.

Hui-Hui Hu
- Session Attended: Dickinson College, session 1, 199x.
- Favorite Memories: "I don't remember anything. (Oh, well,
a lot of broken hearts following the dances, that girls always go for
schmucks, Stairway to Heaven, the word "townie"--tres useful.)"

Ted Jou
- Session Attended: Intro to Advanced Mathematics, JHU, session 2, 1995.
- Favorite Memories: "CTY was a lot of fun. I made a lot
of new friends and renewd some old friendships. I remember having to run
back to my room to get my CD's because the dances really, REALLY SUCKED.
Most importantly, I have my girlfriend now because I met her at CTY after
not seeing her for two years."
- Editor's note: According to Ted, he is featured on the 1996
CTY thingy cover! He says, "you can barely see me, but I'm there and
recognizable". OK, Ted. How much did you pay those CTY
people again? :-)

David Ma
- Session Attended: Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science,

easily wins, not one, but TWO awards: Longest Run-On Sentence, and Most
Creative Formatting.)
"umm

You might also be interested in CTY's official home page. An
instructor at CTY also put together a very comprensive unofficial page, with
nifty stuff like a CTY alumni
directory. Ariel Segall, a self-described "homesick CTYer",
has put together another CTY
page. For general discussion of CTY and life, there's a CTY
mailing list. To subscribe, email
ListServ@ucsd.edu and enter the text "subscribe cty" within
the body of the message. Finally, in his seemingly infinite spare time, Brendan has
put together an American Pie
page, with lyrics, explanations, and even MIDI and Sun .au versions of
the song!
Blair students who went to CTY are always welcome to submit more information.
